Not By Sight

Update: Jan 7, 2026

We were supposed to be writing this blog post from Africa.

We had received an invitation to lead a field in Uganda, almost a year and a half ago. Two hours before the news was to be made public, we turned it down and Chris found himself bawling his eyes out on the floor of the lobby at Taipei Main Station. Chris felt frustrated and didn’t understand why God would do what He did to us, in the way that He did to us.

That was the beginning of a long process of undoing and unlearning, of being torn down and put back together. Over the past year, Chris has felt much weaker, much more uncertain of everything except for the True Things: that Jesus loves him, that Jesus invites us to His cross as the place of intimacy with Him, and that His gospel is very, very good news. As painful as the process is, we are grateful for the trade.

Now we are going to Malaysia. What will we be doing there? Who will we be doing it with? How will we earn income to support ourselves? We cannot answer any of these questions. We can only say that God has made it clear that we should go. And so, we are going. Pray for us.

“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8)
